To obtain a new polynucleotide having high identity with a nucleic acid encoding GlmU polypeptide containing specific amino acid sequence, and usable in e.g. screening antibacterial compounds, treating and/or diagnosing infectious diseases involved in Streptococcus bacteria.
This new isolated polynucleotide includes a polynucleotide having ≥70% identity with the polynucleotide encoding GlmU polypeptide containing an amino acid sequence of the formula and a polynucleotide having ≥70% identity with polynucleotide encoding the same mature polypeptide as that expressed by GlmU gene contained in Streptococcus pneumoniae as a deposited strain. This new polynucleotide is useful in e.g. screening antibacterial compounds and treating and/or diagnosing infectious diseases involved in Streptococcus pneumoniae. This new polynucleotide is obtained by probing the chromosome DNA library of Streptococcus pneumoniae with a labeled oligonucleotide as a partial sequence.
