Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a new compound useful as a monomer component for coatings, resins for coating, adhesives, polymer modification, fiber modification and functional resins, etc.

CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of the formula (R is H or methyl). This compound can be obtained by electrolysis at constant current density of furfuryl (meth)acrylate in methanol as solvent, using ammonium bromide as supporting electrolyte, carbon or platinum as the anode and stainless steel or platinum as the cathode. The characteristic parameters for the reaction are as follows: (1) ≥2mol% of the ammonium bromide based on the furfuryl (meth)acrylate; (2) 2-50wt. times of the methanol based on the furfuryl (meth) acrylate; (3) temperature: room temperature or lower; (4) current density: 20-200mA/cm2; (5) current injection: 2.0-2.2F/mol. This compound, which is a functional monomer having in the molecule polymerizable double bond and functional group reactive in the presence of an acid catalyst, can be made to do modification, cross-linking, curing reaction etc., using the reactive functional group after its polymerization by making use of the double bond.
