Abstract:

To provide an oxidase or a microorganism, converting glycolaldehyde to glyoxal, and to provide a method for efficiently producing glyoxal.

The oxidase acting on glycolaldehyde to produce glyoxal and hydrogen peroxide in the presence of oxygen is provided, wherein, as substitute specificity, the oxidase exhibits activity on glycolaldehyde and glyceraldehyde but substantially does not exhibit activity on methanol, ethanol, 1,2-propanediol, 1,3-propanediol and glyoxal.
