To obtain a new compound having an insulin crinogenic action, an insulin sensibility potentiating action and a β3-receptor stimulating action and useful as an active component of a therapeutic agent of diabetes.
This new compound is expressed by formula I [ring B is formula II (R4 and R5 are each H, a lower alkyl, etc.), etc.; X and Y are each O, S, etc.; R1 is H or a lower alkyl; R2 is H, a lower alkyl, etc.], e.g. 2-[N-benzyl- N-{2-(4-nitrophenyl)ethyl}amino]-1-(4-benzyloxyphenyl)ethanol. The compound of the formula I is synthesized by subjecting a compound of formula III (R' is a protecting group of amino group; R" is a protecting group of OH group; Y is a leaving group such as OH group) and a compound of formula IV into an amidation reaction and removing the protecting group.
