PURPOSE: To improve water-solubility and water absorption properties by reacting a polyethylene glycol diamine with a mixture of an arom. dicarboxylic acid and other dicarboxylic acid.

CONSTITUTION: An arom. dicarboxylic acid (ester) (a) pref. terephthalic acid and isophthalic acid and at least one dicarboxylic acid (ester) (b) other than the ingredient a (e.g. adipic acid) are compounded to obtain dicarboxylic acids (esters) (B). 2 mol polyethylene glycol diamine (A) of formula I (wherein X is 2-6) as a polyalkylene glycol diamine and 1 mol one of the ingredient B are reacted together to obtain an amide amine. Then, this amide amine is reacted with 1 mol another ingredient B to obtain a polyether amide of formula II (wherein R and R' are each a 3-34C alkylene or an arylene and at least one of R and R' is an arylene; x and y are each 2-6).
