Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) copolymer containing a structural unit having an aromatic ring and a vinyl group in a side chain and a different kind of structural unit which controls physical properties such as thermal properties and the like of the copolymer as an additional structural unit, and provide a method for producing the same by using a microorganism.
SOLUTION: A PHA copolymer comprising a 3-hydroxy-ω-(4-vinylphenyl)alkanoic acid unit and a 3-hydroxy-ω-substituted alkanoic acid unit is produced by using an ω-(4-biphenyl)alkanoic acid and an ω-substituted alkanoic acid substituted with a group containing any one of cyclic structural units of a phenyl structural unit, a thienyl structural unit and a cyclohexyl structural unit as raw materials by using the microorganism having the PHA producing ability. A PHA having a predetermined constitution is produced by oxidizing the predetermined site of the PHA.
