Abstract:

To provide a new protein having monocarboxylic acid or amino acid transporting activity, a DNA encoding the protein, a method for the screening of a compound promoting or inhibiting the activity of the protein and a compound obtained by the screening.

A protein having an amino acid sequence same or essentially same as the amino acid sequence of the sequence number 1 (refer to the specification) is useful e.g. as a diagnostic marker for hepatic disease, diabetes, renal disease, metabolic acidosis, muscular disease, splenic disease, immunodeficiency, autoimmune disease, inflammatory disease, allergic disease, disease of genital organ, disease of digestive organ, central nervous disease, circulatory disease cancer and aging. The compound promoting or inhibiting the activity of the protein and obtained by the screening method using the protein is usable e.g. as a preventing and treating agent for the above diseases.
