Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL: To obtain a compound represented by the formula (R1 and R2 are each H or together form a double bond; R3 is oxo or OH, except that R1 and R2 are each H and R3 is oxo)
USE: A hydroxymethylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor.
PREPARATION: A Streptomyces strain DSM 4356 is cultured in a liquid culture medium containing a soybean flour at preferably 1-4 wt.% concentration and mannitol at preferably 1-4 wt.% concentration at 28-30°C for 70-75 hr to produce the compound represented by the formula.
