Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide new monomers useful as an intermediate of a new polymer- type surfactant mild to the skin and the hair and showing a conditioning effect, having a sugar group, a cationic group and a polymerizable group and showing a high affinity to water.

CONSTITUTION: Compounds of formula I {Gm is a sugar residue having a structure obtained by removing H atoms of all the non-glycoside hydroxyl groups and H atoms of all the glycoside hydroxy groups from a 5-6C reducing sugar or its condensed substance (Provided that m is condensation degree and 1-10 in average); A is formula II [R2 is a 2-4C alkylene; R3 and R4 are a 1-3C alkyl; E is formula III or TV (R5 is H or a 1-3C alkyl); Y- is an anion; n is number of 1-50 in average] bonded through an O-glycoside bond to the sugar residue Gm; R1 is a 2-4C alkylene; x is 0-10; y is number of non-glycoside hydroxides in a 5-6C reducing sugar or its condense substance}, e.g. a compound of formula V. The above-mentioned compound can be obtained by reacting a compound of formula VI [Q is formula-R2-(OR2)nX (X is halogen)] with a compound of formula VII.
