NEW MATERIAL: A sulfate deriv. of galactan extracted from the genus Klebsiella mainly composed of neutral carbohydrate sulfated in a ratio of hydroxyl 20-90%.
USE: An immunostimulation agent, an anti-erastase agent and an anticoagulant.
PROCESS: Acylglucan mainly consisting of about 80% of neutral carbohydrate, 20% of lipid and below 2% of protein and having a mol.wt. of 12500 and extracted from the genus Klebsiella is treated with mild acid hydroysis to be applied to high performance chromatography using a negative ion exchanger to collect a non-held fraction which is, in turn, filtered on a gel to collect a fraction containing galactan having a mol.wt. of 4000-10000 and this obtd. galactan fraction is sulfated and purified by dialysis to be isolated.
