Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an illuminator small is size, light in weight and capable of efficiently irradiating a subject with illumination light by irradiating the subject with luminous flux from a light source means through an optical member having a light guiding area and a light emitting area whose thickness is reduced as it is distant from an incident surface.
SOLUTION: The plate-like optical member 4 is provided with the light guiding area 4c guiding the illumination luminous flux made incident from the light incident surface 4a and the light emitting area 4d whose thickness is gradually reduced as it is distant from the incident surface 4a and which is set for irradiating a subject with the illumination luminous flux. The illumination luminous flux from a light source 2 is made incident from the incident surface 4a of the optical member 4. Then, one part of the luminous flux is directly guided to the area 4d. Besides, the other is repeatedly totally reflected on the upper and the lower surfaces 4c1 and 4c2 of the area 4c and guided to the area 4d. Then, the subject is irradiated with the luminous flux directly emitted from the emitting surface 4b and the luminous flux reflected on a reflection plate 5 and made incident again from the area 4d.
