Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject factor having nerve growth factor-like activity and the enhancing effect for such factor, thus useful as a therapeutic agent for Alzheimer's disease by purifying a metabolite produced by culture of a specific strain.
CONSTITUTION: Stachy botrys-parvispora-F-4708 (FERM P-12660) separated from the dead leaves taken at Yoshino-cho, Omiya City, Saitama Pref., Japan is cultured aerobically (pref. at pH5 to 7 at 25-27°C for 4 days) followed by shaking culture in a liquid medium, and the resulting product is extracted from the microbial cells using an organic solvent and then purified and isolated by a column chromatography with silica gel, thus obtaining the objective compound (NG-121) of the formula.
