Abstract:

To provide methods which can be used in therapeutic angiogenesis in, for example, treatment of ischemic syndromes such as coronary or peripheral arterial diseases by administration of nicotine or other nicotine receptor agonists.

The methods include administration of nicotine or other nicotine receptor agonists inducing angiogenesis in the inside of or the regions adjacent to ischemic tissues and administration of substances to synthesize nitrogen monoxide or enhance its activity or to synthesize prostacyclin or enhance its activity.
