Abstract:

To provide nitric oxide-releasing particles for delivering nitric oxide.

The invention relates to the nitric oxide-releasing particles comprising nitric oxide donors which are selected from diazeniumdiolate, nitrosamin, hydroxyl nitrosamine, nitrosothiol, hydroxylamine, hydroxyurea and a combination thereof, the nitric oxide-releasing particles for delivering nitric oxide, and their uses in biomedical and pharmaceutical applications. The particles are used for arterial stents, guide wires, catheters, trocar needles, bone anchors, bone screws, protective plates, hip and joint replacements, electrical leads, biosensors, probes, sutures, surgical drapes, wound dressings, and bandages.
