Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound useful as an active ingredient of insect pest controlling agents.

CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I [X is S or O; R1 is (substituted)phenyl; R2 is (substituted)naphthyll, e.g. 2-(2-chloro-6-fluorophenyl)-4-(2-naphthyl)-2- oxazoline. The compound of formula I is obtained by cyclizing a compound of formula II (Y is eliminable group) in the presence of a sulfurizing agent (e.g. phosphorus pentasulfide), as necessary, in a solvent (e.g. water or THF) at 20°C to the boiling point of the solvent. The compound of formula I is effective in controlling insect pests in broad range, e.g. hygienic pests, grain pests, clothes pests or household pests and effective particularly against Aphis gossypii, Tetranychus urtiae, etc.
