To obtain an intermediate having low chlorine content or chlorine-free intermediate used as an additive in a lubricating agent.
This composition comprises (A) one or more kinds of olefinic unsaturated hydrocarbon polymers having about 20,000-500,000 Mn when the polymer is not a star polymer and having about ≤4,000,000 GPC peak molecular weight when the polymer is a star polymer, (B) one or more kinds of compounds of the formula (R3 and R5 are each independently H or hydrocarbyl group; R4 is a bifunctional hydrocarbylene group; (n) is 0 or 1) or their carboxylic acid reaction products, wherein the component A react with the component B to form an intermediate, and then, the intermediate reacts with component C and, as necessary, with component D, (C) one or more kinds of compounds selected from ammonia, hydrazine and amines having one or more condensable H-N groups in the structure and (D) one or more kinds of hydrocarbyl- substituted carboxylic acids, their lactones, anhydrides and esters.
