To obtain a nonfoaming gel shaving composition which is useful in shaving mustache, unwanted hairs and the like with a safety shaver or a razor by using a combination of a carboxyvinyl polymer and a polysaccharide polymer as a gelling agent and setting the viscosity of the composition in a specific range.
A carboxyvinyl polymer (preferably in an amount of 0.01-5.0wt.%), a polysaccharide polymer (preferably in an amount of 0.01-4.0wt.%) and water (in a balancing amount) are mixed and its Brookfield viscosity is adjusted to 10,000-70,000 centipoise at 30°C. The polysaccharide polymer is preferably at least one selected from the group consisting hydroxyethylcellulose, hydroxypropylcellulose and carageenan. In addition, 0.1-5.0wt.% of a polyhydric alcohol and 0.01-1.0wt.% of a high polymer of polyethylene oxide with a molecular weight of ≥100,000 may be admixed. Further, 0.1-50wt.% of an oil-in-water type emulsion may be added. Particularly, this composition preferably does not contain soap.
