Abstract:
PURPOSE:To easily form the pattern of a conjugated high-polymer film by forming the pattern of the conjugated high-polymer film having a desired shape on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:After a nonconjugated precursor high-polymer film 2 is formed on the substrate 1, the pattern 5 of the conjugated high-polymer film is formed in the desired region of the nonconjugated precursor high-polymer film 2 by selectively irradiating the region with an electromagnetic wave, electron beam or particle beam. Namely, the nonconjugated precursor high-polymer film 2 is formed on the substrate 1 and a mask 3 formed with the prescribed pattern is installed thereon. The desired region of the nonconjugated precursor high- polymer film 2 is selectively irradiated with the electromagnetic wave, electron beam or particle beam 4 through this mask 3. As a result, the conjugated high- polymer film 5 is formed. The conjugated precursor high-polymer film 2 is removed by using a solvent which dissolves the nonconjugated precursor high- polymer film alone to form the pattern of the conjugated high-polymer film 5. The nonlinear optical element formed by using the conjugated high-polymer with which patterning of waveguides, etc., is heretofore difficult is produced in this way.
