Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the nonlinear optical material of an amorphous organic high polymer having optical characteristics small in diffusion and propagation loss by incorporating specified acrylic derivative units or combinations of these units and vinyl acetate units. CONSTITUTION:This polymer comprises the acrylic derivative units each represented by formula I or combinations of these units and the vinyl acetate units, and in formula I, X is H or methyl. Since this optical material uses the acrylic derivative unit having a cyanoaniline chromophore on the side chain together with a short spacer, its absorption wavelength end is near to that of p-nitroaniline or by 80-90nm on the shorter side, and since it is an amorphous polymer, it is small in light diffusion high in a crystalline polymer, and superior in transparency and secondary nonlinear optical constant, small in time lapse attenuation of SHG intensity, and superior in stability with the lapse of time.
