Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain novel antibiotic phosalacine, by cultivating ray fungus KA- 388.

CONSTITUTION: Ray fungus KA-388 (FERM-P 7156) is cultivated in a liquid medium to five novel antibiotic phosalacine shown by the formula having herbicidal activity. This antibiotic has the following physical and chemical properties. Elemental analysis: C 46.01wt%, H 7.73wt%, N 11.5wt%, O 26.28wt%, and P 8.48wt%. Melting point: >225°C (decompose). Molecular weight: 365. Color of substance: white. Solubility: easily soluble in water, soluble in methanol, slightly soluble in ethanol, butanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, chloroform, benzene, hexane, and ethyl ether. Color reaction: positive in ninhydrin reagent.
