NEW MATERIAL:7,8-Dihydro-3-(2',4'-dihydrophenyl)-8-hydroxymethyl-5-methoxy-8- methyl-2H,6H-benzo[1,2-b:5,4-b']dipyran-2-one.
USE: An inhibitor of blood platelet aggregation.
PREPARATION: For example, Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisher is extracted with a solvent such as water and/or an alcohol and the solvent is removed from the extracted solution. The residue is directly used or optionally dissolved in water, extracted with an organic solvent such as n-hexane and a fat-soluble component transferred to the solvent is removed. Then the component is extracted with chloroform, the solvent is removed from the extracted solution to give residue, which is subjected column chromatography with water or methanol as an eluting solvent and then fractionated by thin-layer chromatography.
