EXAMPLE: Sodium 5-(2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenoxy)-2-nitrophenyl-thio glycolate.
USE: A herbicide having high selectivity. Having improved weeding actions on broadleaf weeds, e.g., morning glory, cocklebur, "Stellaria neglecta" white, etc., strongly noxious weeds in dry field farming, and yet having high safety to crops.
PROCESS: For example, 5-( 2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenoxy )-2-nitrophenylthioglycolic acid is reacted with an aqueous solution of soidum hydroxide added dropwise in acetone to give the example compound.
