Abstract:
To obtain a novel fluorine-containing compound which has fluoroalkyl, alkyl and polar group in its molecule, develops sufficient lubricant properties with a thin layer and can manifest excellent lubricity durability over a wide temperature range and is useful as a lubricant for magnetic recording medium.
This compound is represented by formula I [Rf is a fluoroalkyl; R is a (polar group-substituted) alkyl; R' is a group of formula II (m≥0; n≥0); X, Y are each a single bond, -O-; Z1 is a polar group; 1 is m], typically 2- octadecyloxy-3-perfluorohexyl-n-propanol. The compound of formula I is prepared by reaction of a compound of formula III (A is Cl, Br, I) with a compound of the formula: R-OH in the presence of an alkali with heat.
