NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formula [R1 is β-D-glucopyranosyl (1→2)-β-D-glucopyranosyl; R2 is α-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1→6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl; R3 is H].
EXAMPLE: 20S-Protopanaxadiol-3-O-{ [ β-D-glucopyranosyl(1→2)-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl(1→6)]-β-D-glucopyranoside}-20-O-[β-D-glucopyranosyl(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranoside].
USE: Having an inhibitory action on lipid decomposition and lipid synthesis, useful as a drug.
PROCESS: Gynostemma pentaphyllum Makino is extracted with water or water- containing lower alcohol, the extracted solution is treated with a nonionic absorbong resin, and the absorbed substance is eluted with a lower alcohol. The eluate is treated with alumina, the absorbed substance is eluted with the (water- containing) lower alcohol to give a crude gyno saponin, which is treated with a styrenic absorbing resin and silica gel, respectively, separated, and purified.
