PURPOSE: To provide a herbicide having broad herbicidal spectrum, strong herbicidal activity and high safety to some kinds of useful crops.

CONSTITUTION: The herbicide contains a halogenated cycloalkanecarbohydrazic derivative of formula I ((n) is 0-3; X is halogen; R1 and R2 are halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, mono- or dialkylamino, etc.; R3 is alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, phenyl, benzyl, furyl, thienyl, pyrrolyl, triazolyl, thiazolyl, thiadiazolyl, oxazolyl, etc.; R4 is H, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, etc.), e.g. 1-fluoro-2-(4,6- dimethoxypyrimidinyl-2-oxy)-N'-phenylsulfonylcyclopentanecarbohydrazide as an active component. The compound of formula I is a new compound. The compound of formula I wherein R4 is H can be produced by converting a halogenated cycloalkanecarboxylic acid of formula II into an active intermediate and reacting with a compound of formula III.
