Abstract:
PURPOSE: To easily obtain an optically active β-hydroxy ester and its derivative (acetate), by utilizing selective hydrolysis of α-methyl-β-acetoxy ester compound with a lipase.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture [(±)-Syn] of the compound of formula I (R is group of formula IIWVIII; Ac is acetyl; Me is methyl) and the compound of formula IX is treated with commercially available or industrial lipase to effect the selective and exclusive hydrolysis of the acetoxy group of the compound of formula II to obtain the objective compound of formula X having optical activity. The mixture of the compound of formula I and the compound of formula II can be easily produced by conventional method.
