NEW MATERIAL:A 4-amino pyrazolo[3,4-b][1,5]benzodiazepine derivative (acid addition salt) of formulaI(R is H, methyl of phenyl; X is H or chlorine).

USE: A psychotropic agent.

PROCESS: (A) A 4-amino-3-cyano-[1H]-1,5-benzodiazepine of formula II or a chlorine derivative or a hydrochloride thereof is usually reacted with (B) preferably 2W10mol, based on one mole component (A), hydrazine of the formula NH2NH-R or an N-substituted hydrazine in a solvent, e.g. water or methanol, for several hours under heating.
