PURPOSE: To obtain a probe for the specific detection of bacterial species belonging to the genus Campylobacter by preparing a DNA or RNA nucleic acid probe composed of a recognized characteristic sequence of DNA or RNA.
CONSTITUTION: This nucleic acid probe is a DNA or RNA nucleic acid probe composed of a recognized characteristic sequence of respective DNA or RNA sequence and useful for the specific detection of bacterial species of the genus Campylobacter. The selective detection and identification of the bacterial infection with Campylobacter coli or jejuni are carried out by using two kinds of probes having specificity to C.coli and C.jejuni, respectively, and separately forming hybrids with the complementary DNA sequence or the complementary RNA sequence belonging to the species to be identified and optionally modified when the sequence has a double-stranded structure in the initial state.
