A board for number plate which is colored in the specified ground color, whose part for characters, etc., is punched off, and in which a transparent plastic plate is affixed to this character part, is secured to an opening/closing frame 2 furnished on the whole surface of a case 1, and inside the case, light emitting diodes 8 are installed so that the character part becomes luminous. In this number plate with luminous characters, etc., a light dispersive board 7 made of photo-transmissive resin is installed on the rear surface of the number plate board, wherein the light emitting diodes 8 are arranged so that light is incident from at least one end face of the dispersive board 7, and a light reflection region 77 is provided on the rear surface of the board 7 in such an arrangement that the area enlarges gradually from the end face where light is incident to the other end face. This permits constructing the case thin, enables emission of uniform light from the surface of the light dispersive board 7, and allows the characters to be luminous uniformly, which can be established without risk of white turbidity resulting from a thermal damage.
