Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant position detection device capable of detecting surely existence or the position of an occupant by discriminating the occupant from a seat by a comparatively small operation processing even when the temperature difference between the occupant and the seat is small.
SOLUTION: This occupant position detection device is constituted as follows: the position of a headrest 13 is detected; a headrest surface position which is a boundary between the headrest 13 and an occupant's head is determined; a brightness discrimination threshold Te is adjusted so that the edge can be extracted from an image photographed by an infrared camera to the headrest surface line position; the brightness discrimination threshold is adjusted from the brightness discrimination threshold Te as much as a prescribed quantity so that a target of a known face line pattern can be extracted to a prescribed relative geometric position relative to the headrest surface line position; and a target (for example, the nose position in the face) of each part shape of an occupant model shape is extracted from the extracted face line in the adjusted brightness.
