To provide a method for producing a fuel oil reformed to a higher level in high yield by setting a specifically structured catalyst layer in a reforming section below a melting/pyrolyzing chamber of an apparatus for oil conversion from plastics and by restraining a temperature of gas from rapidly reducing when a plastic melted during an initial operating period is switchably guided to the reforming section so as to stabilize a composition of the resultant refined pyrolyzed oil.
This method is conducted by setting a catalyst layer 3 in a reforming section 2 formed below a melting/pyrolyzing chamber 1 of an apparatus for oil conversion from plastics, wherein the catalyst layer is obtained by either blending thin metal plates and a ceramic material having a continuous porous structure comprising a silica as a main component and oxide of metal e.g. calcium or barium in the volume ratio of (3 to 1) to (6 to 1) or making a lamination from these components similarly. The thin metal plates are pref. copper plates, esp. it is more pref. to use a scrap of metal pieces, resulted from a metal cutting work, having a large void volume.
