PURPOSE: To obtain an oil deterioration-degree detector and the detecting method thereof, which can suppress dispersion and can detect the deterioration-degree of oil highly accurately.
CONSTITUTION: The light emitting surface on the side of a light emitting element 9 and the light receiving surface on the side of a photodetector 5 are arranged with a specified gap therebetween. The light from the light emitting element 9 is received by the photodetector 5 through the oil in the gap. The pollution degree of the oil is detected based on the transmittance of the light. In this oil deterioration-degree detector, a waste oil groove or a ring having a waste oil hole, which communicates with the outside from the gap δ, is provided, at the place of a supporting body for the light emitting element 9 or the outer surface position of the gap δ of the supporting body of the light emitting element 9. The position does not blocks the transmission of the light. When the sample oil is dripped on the light emitting surface or the light receiving surface, the light emitting surface and the light receiving surface are separated. Meanwhile, when the light is transmitted through the sample oil, the edge of the ring is brought into contact with the supporting body of the light emitting surface or the light receiving surface. The gap and the outer air are made to communicate with each other only through the waste oil groove or the waste oil hole. A driving part is provided between the supporting bodies.
