To provide an oil recovering device for draining lubricating oil from a roll jacket of a roll to be used for a paper machine to reduce motive power and heat generation due to the lubricating oil while preventing the galling of a shoe resulting from the thermal deformation of a center shaft (a resting support).
The roll 2 consists of the resting center shaft (the support) 3, the roll jacket 4 arranged around the support for rotation, and the shoe 5 supported by the support 3 for thrusting the roll jacket from the inner periphery side to the peripherally outward direction. The method of recovering oil from the roll jacket of the roll 2 comprises using an oil collecting container 22 which is mounted on the support 3 at the upstream side of the shoe 5 in the roll jacket rotating direction via a heat insulating block (a heat insulating layer) 23 for collecting the oil rotated in association with the rotation of the roll jacket 4 and recovering the oil collected in the oil collecting container 22 via an oil drain pipe 32 to the outside of the roll jacket 4.
