To obtain an ethylene/α-olefin copolymer excellent in shear stability and low-temperature properties, which is a copolymer comprising ethylene and an α-olefin in a specified ratio, having a specified number-average molecular weight, a specified molecular weight distribution, and a specified kinematic viscosity, and having a polymer main chain having a specified content of terminal unsaturations.
This copolymer comprises 30-80 mol% ethylene units and 20-70 mol% 3-10C α-olefin units, has a number-average molecular weight of 500-12,000, a molecular weight distribution of at most 3, a kinematic viscosity of 10-3,000 mm2/s at 100°C, and a content of polymer chains each having a terminal unsaturation such as a terminal vinyl of at least 95%, and has a B value of 1.2-2.0 (wherein B is defined by the equation: B=POE/(2Po.PE). The copolymer is produced by using a catalyst system comprising at least one compound selected from among a transition metal compound, an organometallic compound, an organoaluminumoxy compound, and an ion-pair-forming compound. In the equation, PO is the molar fraction of α-olefin units; POE is the number of alternating chains to the total number of diad chains.
