PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new oligonucleotide having specific base sequences and/or the corresponding complementary sequences, and useful as a nucleic acid probe or primer for detecting Enterobacteriaceae, especially pathogenic Enterobacteriaeae, such as Salmonella sp., or the like.
CONSTITUTION: This new oligonucleotide has base sequences of formulas I to VIII (X1 and X2 are each H or 1-20 additional nucleotides) and/or the corresponding complementary sequences, is useful for detecting Enterobacteriaceae, in particular, pathogenic Enterobacteriaceae, such as Salmonella sp., is selected from the salmolysin-like DNA region, is used as a nucleic acid probe or a primer. The compound is obtained by synthesizing a fragment of a salmolysin- like DNA region comprising the salmolysin DNA region of a hemolytic toxin of Salmonella and the adjacent non-encoded regions by a phosphoamidite method using a DNA-synthesizing machine.
