To provide an openwork fabric in which the openwork is formed relatively inexpensively and with a prescribed strength to the ground fabric and provide a method of producing the same.

This objective openwork fabric is produced by forming layer fabric from different kinds of adjacent yarns and subjecting one of fabric layers to the thinning treatment so that the openwork may be formed. Since the fabric layer not subject to the thinning treatment maintains the prescribed strength, the openwork pattern is reinforced with the whole strength of the fabric layers, even when the strength of the fabric layer of the openwork pattern is deteriorated, whereby the shape of the openwork layer also can be held.
