PURPOSE: To detect easily the change in the inner circumferential direction of a furnace around a melt zone by obtaining the deviation between the values of pressure measured at plural positions at the same height which are separated in the circumferential direction and their mean value at plural different heights of the blast furnace body.
CONSTITUTION: Pressure gauges are provided along the circumference of a blast furnace at positions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 which are obtained by dividing the circle into eight equal pars. Plural pressure gauges are further provided in the vertical direction of the furnace at each position, and the pressure in the vicinity of the furnace wall in the blast furnance is measured at plural points respectively in the circumferential and in the vertical direction of the furnace. The deviation in pressure between the mean of eight pressure values at the same height and each measured pressure value is obtained, and a parameter for expressing the position of the melt zone is calculated from each measured pressure value at the same height. The deviation in the melt zone in the circumferential direction of the furnace is obtained from the pressure deviation at the position of the melt zone obtained by the parameter.
