Abstract:

To provide an operating method for the exhaust gas treatment device of an internal combustion engine in which occurrence of a torque jump in the engine is not noticed by the driver of the motor vehicle as much as practicable.

The operating method for the exhaust gas treatment device 24 of the internal combustion engine 10 of a motor vehicle is configured so that change in its operating mode is conducted as a function of the characteristic parameters (Mfa, mE, Clt, N, v), in which a timing element t is started when an operative mode change request 46 is placed, and determination is made continuously whether the execution of an operative mode change is possible based on evaluation of at least one of the characteristic parameters (Mfa, mE, Clt, N, v) during the time period set by the timing element t, and if the determination signifies yes, the operative mode change is executed directly, and if no, the change is executed in a delay after a certain time set by the timing element t. Thereby the driver will not notice a torque jump of the internal-combustion engine, possibly occurring during an operative mode change.
