In this escalator, when a load detecting device 10 provided on a getting-out floor 4 detects the load more than a specific weight, a riding-in port advance preventive device 6 provided at the getting-in hall 5 side is operated to cut off the riding-in port, and when a specific time passes after the cutting off, a footstep 3 is stopped. Furthermore, after the footstep 3 is stopped, the riding-in port advance preventive devicr 6 is operated to release the riding-in port, and the operation control of the escalator is accomplished.
