PURPOSE: To prevent undesired photographing when a bar code signal at the time of automatically loading, can not be decoded.

CONSTITUTION: This operation controller for a camera is equipped with a spool shaft rotating means 102 which can load a film cartridge 101 on which a bar code displaying film information is integrally and rotatably provided with a spool shaft 101a, forward rotates the spool shaft 101a of the cartridge 101 to send out the film from the cartridge 101 and lead the film to a winding spool, and simultaneously, backward rotates the spool shaft 101a to rewind the film into the cartridge 101, a reading means 103 reading the pattern of the bar code integrally rotated with the spool shaft 101, to output the bar code signal, at the time of sending out the film, a decoding means 104 decoding/outputting the bar code signal, and a control means 105 controlling the spool shaft rotating means 102 to rewind the film, when the bar code signal can not be decoded by the decoding means 104.
