Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide novel ophthalmic therapeutic materials having pharmacokinetic properties different from the existing materials, active in protection of optic nerve and reduction of elevated intraocular pressure, and useful for treatment of ophthalmic diseases such as glaucoma.SOLUTION: Provided is an ophthalmic therapeutic material comprising a therapeutic component comprising a therapeutically effective amount of α2 adrenergic receptor agonist. The therapeutic material is preferably in a form of polymeric drug delivery system, and the delivery system may be in a form of biodegradable polymer implant having a polymer component such as poly(lactide-co-glycolide) polymer, polylactic acid and polyglycolic acid. To administer the therapeutic material, a liquid composition comprising the therapeutic material is administered intravitreally or periocularly or administered by intravitreal fluid.
