Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical fiber amplifier which is high in total gain and low in gain tilt and capable of being controlled in total gain to a prescribed gain tilt. SOLUTION: This amplifier 14 is equipped with a doped optical fiber amplifier medium 20 provided with a frequency selective reflector 30, a first pump 25 which is connected to the input of the amplifier medium 20 and generates pump signals that propagate in the same direction with data signals of first wavelength, and a second pump 26 which is connected to the output of the amplifier medium 20 and generates pump signals that propagate in the opposite direction. The frequency selective reflector 30 reflects all the pump signals which propagate in the opposite direction from the second pump 26.
