PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical instrument capable of accurately displaying information on a subject distance.SOLUTION: In the optical instrument including a focus element moved in focusing, a variable power lens moved in varying power, a display part displaying the information on the subject distance corresponding to the position of the focus element, and a control part allowing the display part to display the information on the subject distance, when the focus element is in a focusing area between an infinite electronic cam and a close electronic cam, the subject distance is calculated on the basis of electronic cam data and when the focus element is not in the focusing area, distance display information indicating the distance of the focus element from the infinite electronic cam or the close electronic cam is acquired.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
