PURPOSE: To couple beam arrays having valid angle visual fields in wavelength dependency and to provide the connected beam with the same linear polarization type by substantially and mutually canceling polarization conversion with respect to the beam having one wavelength of two wavelengths by means of a plate.
CONSTITUTION: A dichloic mirror 243 used as the wavelength depending element of the optical device is oriented so that the incident beam becomes substantially parallel to the mirror. When the orientation is used, ideal performance can be realized even if the beam array has the valid angle visual field. The device has the two plates 242 and 244, and the two plates are designed to operate as 1/4 wavelength plates in one wavelength of the two wavelengths which are to be connected. They are oriented to have high speed axes which are mutual and substantially orthogonal. Namely, power and the control beam arrays are received and connected in the first and second faces of a polarization beam splitter 241 and they are emitted from the third face of the polarization beam splitter in the linear polarized light of a p-type. Thus, wavelength dependence beam connection depending on the polarization beam splitter can be realized.
