To provide an optical disk which has a light transparent layer suppressing the generation of build-up parts in an outer peripheral part as much as possible and having a good surface characteristic and is so formed as to allow a further increase of its capacity and a production method thereof.
The optical disk 1 is successively formed with a recording part 6 and the light transparent layer 5 on a substrate 2. Light is made incident on the optical disk from the light transparent layer 5 side and the signal recording region 6a of the recording section 6 is subjected to recording and/or reproducing of information signals. The distance D is a diametral direction from the outermost peripheral part to the signal recording region 6a of the substrate 2 is set larger than the width L in the diametral direction of the built-up part 5a generated in the outer peripheral part of the light transparent layer 5. The height (h) from the surface of the light transparent layer 5 of the built-up part 5a is ≤70 μm.
