A grinding wheel 10 has a centering and edging part 12a and chamfering parts 12b, 12c grinding the outer peripheral part of a lens, and these parts are constituted by an abrasive grain layer 14 electro-deposited in an abrasive grain fixed surface 13 of a grinding wheel main unit 11. A radial reference surface 15a and a thrust reference surface 15b are formed in a work process working the abrasive grain fixed surface 13 to the grinding wheel main unit 11, the grinding wheel 10 is rotated by mounting it in a spindle of a centering and edging machine, rotational deflection in a radial/thrust direction is measured by using the reference surfaces 15a, 15b, and a mounting part or the like of the grinding wheel 10 relating to the spindle is adjusted.
