Title:
OPTICAL ELEMENT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS62925
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a sharp image having high contrast and high resolution by sandwiching a gel-contg. liquid layer of a liquid absorptive and desorptive polymer which expands or contracts by a temp. change between a pair of substrates on one of which a resistance heating layer is formed.

CONSTITUTION: A photoresist is coated on the surface of the glass substrate 1 after a tantalum oxide is formed thereon and striped patterns parallel with the short sides of the substrates 1 are baked thereto and are etched to form the resistance heating layer 11. An electrode layer 12 is formed thereon and further a protective layer 10 for the resistance heating layer is laminated thereon. The substrate 1 provided with the heating layer 11 and a transparent protective plate 3 made of glass are positioned to face each other with a 'Mylar(R)' film as a spacer and are adhered. The liquid layer 2 contg. the gel which expands by absorbing liquid at a high temp. and shrinks by discharging the liquid at a low temp. is held in place between the substrate 1 and the protective plate 3. Electric pulses of, for example, 1kHz frequency are inputted according to information signals to the heating layer 11 of such optical system, then the prescribed positions corresponding to the information signals exhibit light scattering property and the sharp image having the high contrast and high resolution is obtd.
