PURPOSE: To obtain excellent reproducibility and high accuracy at a low cost by forming grooves for holding optical fiber by pressworking.
CONSTITUTION: This optical fiber array is provided with two sheets of optical fiber guides 11 having the V-shaped grooves 13 formed on the surface of transparent glass materials 12. Two sheets of the optical fiber guides 11 are so arranged that the grooves 13 face each other. Coated optical fibers 14 are clamped along the grooves 13 between the respective optical fiber guides 11. A photosetting resin adhesive 15 is packed between the respective optical fiber guides 11 and between the grooves 13 and the coated optical fibers 14. The grooves 13 are formed by hot pressing the transparent glass material 12 with a mold for press forming and transferring the rugged shapes of the mold to the material. The photosetting resin adhesive is cured by irradiation with light after the packing. As a result, the coated optical fibers 14 are adhered and fixed to the grooves 13 of the optical fiber guides 11 and the optical fiber array is produced.
