Abstract:
To provide a system and method with which it is possible to detect an optical fiber break with good accuracy.SOLUTION: An optical fiber break detection system of the present invention comprises a first laser device, a first optical fiber, a second optical fiber, a first reflection unit for reflecting single-mode light, a third optical fiber which the single-mode light reflected from the first reflection unit enters, and a first multiplexer, the second optical fiber including a first core and a first clad, the first core and the first clad having a refractive index difference that enables total reflection of the single-mode light. The system further includes a monitor for detecting a change of luminous power of the single-mode light, with a break of the second optical fiber detected by a change of luminous power of the single-mode light that is detected by the monitor. Thus, a break of an optical fiber is detected by a change of luminous power of the single-mode light that is detected by the monitor using the optical fiber break detection system.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
