To provide an optical fiber cord that can save a housing space for an excess length by suppressing bending inclination as much as possible even in winding for a long time, that is easy to handle, and that resists damage in wiring operation.
A coated optical fiber 2 is surrounded with a tensile fiber 3 in the circumference thereof and the outside thereof is covered with a jacket 4 composed of polyvinyl chloride to form an optical fiber cord 1. The optical fiber cord 1 is wound on a mandrel of a 15 mm diameter for 100 hours or longer, so that a relation between the diameter d of a bending inclination when the winding is released and the winding diameter becomes 15/d≤0.3. With the elasticity of the jacket 4 being ≤75 MPa, and with the bending rigidity ≤12(N×mm2), the outer diameter of the cord is made larger than 1.2 mm. The coated optical fiber 2 to be used has a mode field diameter of ≤10.0 μm and desirably, ≤8.0 μm by the definition of Petermann-l at the wavelength of 1.55 μm.
